This is a beautiful Victorian fountain built to commemorate Mr Tan Kim Seng for his generous donations. In 1857,he donated a sum of $13,000 to the Municipal Council for the purpose of bringing free piped water to the Town.
Tan Kim Seng was acknowledged as a Chinese leader in Singapore and Malacca. He was the first Asian to be appointed as a member of the Municipal Commission in 1857. He also funded a Chinese Free School and supported the Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Kim Seng Road is named after him. by: History Project 2010 @ 10:00 PM
